Two Violins & a Piano

It is more than a pleasure for Technopolis 20, to announce its next event of the Classical Music Concert Series ‘Technopolis 20 Classics’ with Fedor Rudin, Julia Turnovsky and Ivan Rudin, three talented and world-famous musicians promising a high standard performanve, where works by Darius Milhaud, Jean-Marie Leclair, Claude Debussy, Moritz Moszkowski, Igor Frolov, Pablo de Sarasate will be presented.

The concert will take place at Markideio Theatre in Paphos, on Friday, 6th of May 2022, at 8pm. For one only concert in the island the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy music by three prize-winners of prestigious competitions, with international performances in many of the world’s most revered concert halls, collaborating with renowned orchestras and conductors.

Appointed Concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic in 2019, laureate of some of the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the Premio Paganini in Genoa and George Enescu in Bucharest, the French-Russian violinist and conductor Fedor Rudin is quickly establishing himself as one of the most unique and versatile concert artists of today’s generation. He was awarded the Ivry Gitlis Prize in Paris in 2019 and his newest album ‘Reflets’ was nominated for the International Classical Music Awards. The second violinist of the evening, Julia Turnovsky is the Prize winner of the ‘International David Oistrach Violin Competition’ in Moscow, the 2018 International Johannes Brahms Competition and the 2018 Carl Flesch International Violin Competition, while the pianist Ivan Rudin is laureate of the Theodore Leshititsky First International Piano Competition in Taiwan, the International Piano Competition Cantu-Como (Italy, 2007), the International Piano Competition of Alma-Aty (Kazakhstan, 2008) and the Maria Callas Grand Prix (Greece, 2010). In 2017 he was appointed Musical Director of the State Symphony Orchestra of Moscow.

A French-Russian violinist and conductor Fedor Rudin is quickly establishing himself as one of the most unique and versatile concert artists of today’s generation. A laureate of some of the world’s most prestigious competitions, including the Premio Paganini in Genoa and George Enescu in Bucharest, he was awarded the Ivry Gitlis Prize in Paris in 2019. His album Reflets was nominated for the International Classical Music Awards.

Highlights of the 2021/22 season include Fedor Rudin’s debuts with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, under the baton of Petr Popelka, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Kirill Karabits, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, as well as debuts with the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the German Chamber Orchestra at the Berlin Philharmonie and the SWR Mittags- und Preisträgerkonzert. Together with his regular duo partner, the pianist Boris Kusnezow, he will undertake a recital tour in Japan, while chamber music projects take him to the Tallinn Chamber Music Festival, Musikfest Kassel, Cyprus and Konzertverein Ingolstadt. As a conductor, Rudin will lead the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Albanian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna Mozart Orchestra on a tour in Switzerland and Greece.

Previous solo debuts have taken Fedor Rudin to many of the world’s most revered concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Berlin Konzerthaus, Paris Philharmonie, Vienna Musikverein and Tonhalle Zurich. He has appeared with renowned orchestras, such as Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB), Sinfonieorchester Basel, Orchestre de chambre de Paris, Münchener Kammerorchester, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, while regularly collaborating with conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Darrell Ang, Lorenzo Viotti and Christoph Poppen.

A devoted chamber musician, Rudin is a founding member of the Fratres Trio, hailed by the press as “a new generation of classical music” for its unusual combination of violin, saxophone and piano. The ensemble is a prizewinner of the Illzach International Chamber Music Competition (Mulhouse, France) and Pizzicato Magazine’s Supersonic Award, which the trio received for its first CD Couleurs d’un Rêve. 

Fedor Rudin is a frequent guest at some of the most prestigious music festivals in the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Pietrasanta in Concerto, Crans Montana Classics and the Festival ArtenetrA. As concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic, he has collaborated with conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta and Andris Nelsons.

Already from the age of 20, Rudin himself worked as a guest conductor with the Georgian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, he has led orchestras such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro, the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Lviv Philharmonic and the Szczecin Opera Orchestra. In 2021 he completed his conducting studies in the class of Simeon Pironkoff (orchestral conducting) and Vladimir Kiradjiev (opera conducting) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Fedor Rudin, as the grandson of the famous Russian avant-garde composer Edison Denisov, was born in Moscow in 1992 and grew up in Paris, where he studied with Miroslav Roussine and Svetlin Roussev. A graduate of Zakhar Bron at the Hochschule für Musik Köln and Pierre Amoyal at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Kunstuniversität Graz in the class of Boris Kuschnir

November 2021 saw the release of Rudin’s new album Heritage, a CD of Russian and French compositions, on Orchid Classics, in co-production with SWR. Recorded with Boris Kusnezow, it features pieces by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Debussy and Mussorgsky, as well as works by Fedor’s grandfather.

Julia Turnovsky was born in Vienna and comes from a family of musicians. She received her first violin lessons at the age of five. From 2000 to 2014 she has been studying with Prof. Boris Kuschnir at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität Wien and at the Kunstuniversität Graz.

Prize winner of international violin competitions such as David Oistrach, Carl Flesch and Johannes Brahms, Julia Turnovsky made her debut as a soloist with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie at the age of 13. She has since then performed with many orchestras, such as the Göttingen Symphonie Orchester, the Camerata Salzburg, the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Chamber Philharmonic and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana.

Previous solo and chamber music debuts have taken Julia Turnovsky to renowned festivals such as the Prague Spring Festival, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Festivals Musique de Chambre a Giverny, Rencontres Musicales d'Iroise and the Haydn Festival Eisenstadt, as well as to concert halls such as Vienna Musikverein, Tonhalle Zurich, Mozarteum Salzburg, Rudolfinum Prague, Philharmonie Luxembourg and the Esterhazy Palace. In addition, Julia Turnovsky has performed as a chamber musician with well-known musicians such as Julian Rachlin, Jean Claude Vanden Eynden, Ettore Causa, Michel Strauss, Candida Thompson, Iris Hagen and Matthias Schorn.

Chamber music and solo projects will take her in the 2021/22 season to the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival with musicians such as Daniel Hope, Maxim Lando and Yibai Chen, as well as to France, Cyprus and Japan.

Ivan Rudin was born in 1982 into a family of musicians. At the age of five, he entered the Gnessin Moscow Special Musical School, where he studied in the class of the well-known teacher T. A. Zelikman (1987-2000). He made his debut with orchestra at the age of 10 and started his international career as a concert artist. At the age of fifteen, Ivan Rudin became a scholarship holder of the Vladimir Krainev charity foundation for young pianists.

In 1998, his performance at the Heinrich Neuhaus International Festival in Moscow was rewarded with the Festival Diploma. In 1999, Rudin became laureate of First Prizes at both the Chamber Ensemble Competition in Moscow and the International Piano Competition in Andorra.

In 2000, Ivan Rudin entered the class of Prof. Lev Naumov (2000-2005) at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory and became a laureate of the Theodore Leshititsky First International Piano Competition in Taiwan, the International Piano Competition Cantu-Como (Italy, 2007), the International Piano Competition of Alma-Aty (Kazakhstan, 2008) and the Maria Callas Grand Prix (Greece, 2010). After Prof. Lev Naumov passed away in 2005, Ivan Rudin entered the class of Prof. Sergei Dorensky.

The pianist has made recordings for CDs, as well as for Russian and western TV and broadcasting companies. He has performed at major music festivals such as the Prague Autumn (Czech Republic), the Colmar International Festival (France), the New Braunschweig Classic Festival (Germany), the Oleg Kagan Musikfest Kreuth (Germany), the International Festival of Nikolay Petrov “Musical Kremlin” and the 300th Anniversary of St Petersburg. 

He performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theatre Symphony Orchestra (principal conductor Tugan Sokhiev), the State Academic Symphony Orchestra “Evgeny Svetlanov” (principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski), the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra (principal conductor Vladimir Fedoseev), the Symphony Orchestra Novaya Rossiya (principal conductor Yuri Bashmet), the National Philharmonic of Russia (principal conductor Vladimir Spivakov), the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the Ankara Presidential Symphony Orchestra and many others. He gave concerts in venues such as Tokyo Suntory Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Zaryadye Hall, Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Moscow House of Music, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Schloss Mirabell, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Vilnius Congress Concert Hall and Leeds Town Hall. He performed alongside great artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Alexander Lazarev, Justus Frantz, Natalia Gutman, Eduard Brunner, Margaret Price, Vladimir Krainev and Alexander Rudin.

Since 2001 Ivan Rudin is the artistic director of the annual International Music Festival “ArsLonga” in Moscow, which regularly hosts outstanding artists such as Yuri Bashmet and Eliso Wirsaladze among others. From 2012 to 2016, Rudin was teaching and studying with Prof. Evgeni Koroliov at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.

In 2017 he was appointed Musical Director of the State Symphony Orchestra of Moscow. Since 2018 he is studying conducting at the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory with Prof. Vladimir Altschuler.
