MUSICALS AND MORE: Theodosis Christides - Aris Antoniades

The unique baritone/counter tenor Theodosis Christides, with a vocal range of four and a half octaves, promises a superb event under the summer stars, accompanied by the renowned pianist and composer Aris Antoniades. As a musical theatre performer, he appeared in musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Jekyll and Hyde” and “Matilda”.

Programme to include musicals from the West End and Broadway, crossover, ballads, Josh Groban, Micheal Buble, and more, including songs written and produced by Theodosis.

A few words about the musicians

Theodosis Christides, the Cypriot-born singer and pianist has earned critical acclaim as a composer, recitalist, musical theatre performer, accompanist and chamber musician. He started playing the piano at the age of ten and he holds a “first class” honors bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and a Master’s degree in Music Composition taught by Peter Graham and Alan Williams. As a composer, many of his works such as “A Symphony after Rachmaninoff”, “Amorosso Diabolique”, The 9th of July 1821” have been performed by major musicians, orchestras and choirs around Cyprus and the UK. His compositions also include, 12 Transcendental Etudes for solo piano, 3 Classical Sonatas, 1 Piano Concerto, 6 Romantic pieces for Violin and Piano and many pop songs. As a musical theatre performer, he appeared in musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera” as the Phantom, “Jekyll and Hyde” as D. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and “Matilda” the musical as the doctor and Rodolpho. He has a vocal range of four and a half octaves and he is famous for his unusual ability to sing female parts in female registers. He currently teaches the piano, works as a musical theatre performer and he is the conductor of the Sine Nomine choir in Tala and the accompanist of the Aris choir in Cyprus.

Aris Antoniades: Born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus, Aris Antoniades has composed the original soundtrack for the Cannes listed short-film Not Now (Short-Film Corner 2014), as well as five other films. His latest soundtrack for the film Ophelia, by Katalina Gutierrez, is currently in audio post-production.

Mr. Antoniades' concert music is heavily influenced by his Greek heritage: merging Hellenic folk dance rhythms with Byzantine ritual chants. His works have been performed across Australia, Canada, China, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His recent symphonic work, Chiaroscuro (2018), was recorded by the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Greece (ERT) and has been broadcast by the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation throughout the 2018-2019 season. His Nostos (2018), for Saxophone and Piano, co-commissioned by the University of Sydney and the Australian ensemble HD Duo, was featured by the group in their 2018 World Tour. More recently, his Toccata & Fugue (2019) for organ was performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC (March 2019). Last November, Antoniades toured Cyprus with the Jazzologia Cyprus Big Band, showcasing his two newly composed Big Band works based on traditional Cypriot tunes.

Mr. Antoniades's arranging credits include a variety of different styles and genres. His arrangement of Lalo Schifrin's famous Mission Impossible theme has been performed by the multi-Grammy nominated MSM Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, led by Bobby Sanabria, at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in NYC. His concert and marching band arrangements are often performed by the Military Music Corps of the Cypriot National Guard. As an orchestrator, he has recently collaborated with Broadway music-director, composer and pianist Andrew Gerle, providing some of the orchestrations for MSM's production Tony Awards: The Early Years directed by Joe Locarro (NYC, 2017). In October 2019, he provided some arrangements and orchestrations for X-Factor (Greece) Judge George Theofanous’ new show Mary – The Mother of Light. Earlier that year, Antoniades released his EP Covers, a reimagination of popular and musical theater songs of different styles, and from different eras, arranged for a cabaret setting.

A recipient of the Fulbright award, Mr. Antoniades completed his Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Classical Composition at Manhattan School of Music in NYC, where he studied with Dr. J. Mark Stambaugh, receiving the Provost’s Award for Academic Excellence upon graduation. Mr. Antoniades is honored to have been the recipient of the Manhattan School of Music International Advisory Board and the A. G. Leventis Foundation scholarship awards.
