“Face to Face” with Sotiris Kasparides and Eirini Leoni

About the Event
The guitarist, baritone and composer Sotiris Kasparides and the violinist Eirini Leoni present the recital “Face to Face”. At the recital the composers Astor Piazzolla, Sotiris Kasparides (premiere), Máximo Diego Pujol, Gioachino Rossini, Carlos Gardel και Carlos Eleta Almarán will be heard. The recital is dedicated to the Argentinian tango, but also the Latin American dances salsa and bachata. The compostions of the above composers will want to present the nostalgia of tango, the passion and love. The guitar, violin and baritone colours will touch the virtuosity of the guitar, the musicality of the violin and the knitting of the voice.
The concert will take place on Wednesday 15/5, 20:00, at Technopolis 20.

A few words about the musicians
Sotiris Kasparides was born in 1980 Strovolos, Nicosia, Cyprus and he is a classical guitarist, baritone and composer. He started guitar lessons at the age of eight with guitar teachers Ismini Giannaki and Eftychia Angeli. He studied at University of Tennessee, USA, at ARTE Music Academy, Cyprus and at Middlesex University, London and is titled with ΑΔΜ ΑRΤΕ, BA Music and ΜΑ Music specialised on guitar performance. He studied guitar with Mario Abril, USA, Demetris Regginos, Cyprus, and Timothy Walker, London, choir with Roland Carter and Lee Harris, USA, classical singing with Rebecca St. Goar, USA and Svetlana Krasnova, Cyprus and titled with Diploma ABRSM – Singing. He also studied Byzantine music with Christodoulos Papastefanou and titled with Diploma. He participated in over fifty guitar performances mainly in Cyprus and in countries like USA, England, Bulgaria for solo and chamber music. He participated in masterclasess for solo and research on guitar with Therese Saba, Eleftheria Kotzia, Evgeni Fingelstein and other guitarists. He composes for guitar and other instruments and, also for small and large ensembles. In 2013, he composed and performed his chamber opera “The Warrior’s Tale” and in 2017 he participated in concerts with the 100 guitars and published the guitar book “100 Studies for young guitarists”. In 2018 he participated as soloist with the Nicosia Orchestra. He also published two CDs “Atmospheres” for guitar and baritone and “Tribute to Leo Brouwer” dedicated to him for solo guitar. In 2023 he published twelve songs for guitar, baritone and soprano with the title “The Night Opens” and he composed his opera “Savvinos and Lydia”.
Eirini Leoni is a classical violinist and teacher, originally from Athens, Greece. She currently lives in Cyprus where she teaching violin and music theory. She was a temporary member of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra until 2022 and she also collaborated with TrakArt Foundation Pops Orchestra, Commandaria Orchestra and several music ensembles all over Cyprus. She received her Master of Music at the University of Nicosia, studying with Janna Dimont. Before coming to Cyprus, she earned a Diploma in Violin Performance from the Synchrono Odeion of Athens, where she studied with Vladislav Halapsis. She holds degrees in harmony, counterpoint, and fugue from Dimitris Makropodis. She has performed extensively in Greece and Cyprus, including being a member of the Bios Chamber Orchestra of Athens and the Camerata Junior of Megaron Mousikis Concert Hall in Athens. In 2011, she was the winner of the Rhodes International Music Festival Competition
