About the Event
The ‘Aris Constantinou Quartet’ appears for the first time in Paphos, at Technopolis 20 garden, on Friday, July 23, at 8pm. The Quartet will present pieces from the classic American compositions and the bebop era, orchestrated by the leader of the band. The ensemble consists of the musicians Dimitris Miaris on piano, Costas Halloumas on double bass, Marios Spyrou on drums and the rising guitarist Aris Constantinou.

A few words about the musicians
Aris Konstantinou is a graduate of the music department of the University of Nicosia, majoring in jazz performance. Although he recently finished his studies, he has been collaborating with Cypriot jazz musicians since 2018, presenting the genre of his favorite music in various parts of Nicosia. He has also participated in festivals in Cyprus such as Friends Across Borders (2019, Kerineia, Soulist) and Make Music Cyprus (2021, Nicosia, D’Avilla Bastion Amphithetre).
Costas Challoumas was born and raised in Larnaca. He studied pedagogy at the University of Cyprus, where he graduated in 1999. He studied double bass and music theory with Nikos Ioannou and continued his studies at ‘The Collective School of Music’ in New York with Sean Conly and Joe Fitzjerald. For twenty years he is a member of various musical ensembles (traditional, jazz, latin etc) and also of music and theatre performance groups. Amongst others, he was a member of the musical ensemble of ancient instruments “Terandros”, the original Cuban band “Havana Noche” and “Turnaround Jazz Quartet”, while the last years he is the artistic director of “Makam Ensemble”.
Dimitris Miaris had classical piano training from the age of six. He graduated from Nicosia music school at 2009. He participated in a bicommunal jazz workshop named ‘Jazz futures’ with world-class teachers.He got his B.A and M.A at the Ionian university in Jazz piano performance.He performed in numerous festivals like festival Kypria, Rialto music showcase, Tinos jazz festival, festival Technopolis Athens, Syros Jazz festival.
Marios Spyrou is a professional Cypriot Jazz drummer, based in Nicosia. He completed his master’s degree in the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and followed several workshops and private lessons with many important Jazz musicians, as Eric Ineke, Joseph Farnsworth, George Fludas, Leroy Williams, Adam Nussbaum, Barry Harris and Harold Maybern. Currently he is teaching private drum lessons at the English school in Nicosia. Over the last 12 years he has been playing extensively with the top Cypriot and European jazz musicians all over the island and in other important venues around Europe (UK, Greece, Italy, Holland, Belgium).
