AfuriKo: African-infused jazz duo

AfuriKo is an African-infused jazz duo exploring the meeting point between jazz improvisation and the cosmological rhythms of African drumming — like a griot walking a tightrope. In this unfolding dialogue, the djembe’s ancestral voice seamlessly integrates with the modern harmonic colours of the piano. Straight from France, the percussionist Akiko Horii and pianist Jim Funnell, will perform at Technopolis 20, on Sunday, April 19, at 19:00.

AfuriKo – a Japanese portmanteau word combining Afurika (アフリカ) and the suffix -ko (子), which means “child” – is an African-infused jazz duo comprised of percussionist Akiko Horii and pianist Jim Funnell.
