The Austrian Embassy, in the context of the Weeks of German Language presents the screening of the film “Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe”, by Maria Schrader, at Technopolis 20 in Paphos, on Tuesday, 28th of November 2017, at 19:30.
The movie tells the story of the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, one of the most famous writers of his time, and his life in exile from 1936 to 1942. As a Jewish intellectual he struggled to find the right stance towards the events in Nazi Germany. Driven to immigrate to South America at the peak of his worldwide fame, he fell into despair at the sight of Europe’s downfall. This film explores what it means to be a refugee, & exposes the difficult decision to speak out or remain silent in the face of tyranny.
